With plenty of history, entertainment and down-home Texas grub to keep you coming back for more, why wouldn’t you want to spend a weekend soaking up all that San Antonio has to offer? Here’s where you’ll want to stay, eat and play on your next weekend trip to San Antonio.

Stay

  • If the city’s River Walk is on your to-do list, don’t miss the hotel that will put you in the middle of all the action: Drury Plaza Hotel Riverwalk. The teller booths in the lobby are a tribute to the hotel’s roots as the Alamo Bank, and you won’t be able to beat the city views while you enjoy the rooftop pool.
  • Looking for something historic? Book a room at the storied Menger Hotel, which has hosted famous guests like President Teddy Roosevelt and Babe Ruth. And if it’s history you’re after, you can’t beat the location: Some rooms at the Menger offer views of The Alamo.
  • For a boutique stay, check out the Cuban-inspired Havana Hotel. A charmingly quaint gem in downtown, this hotel is all about the little details, such as the in-room SMEG brand fridges and real brass room keys.

Eat

  • Locals love the comforting classics at Josephine Street Café, a Texas roadhouse that’s also a San Antonio institution. Neon signs tout steak and whiskey, but you’ll also find pork chops, fried chicken and towering cheeseburgers on the menu. And yes, that is a 500-year-old tree growing through the middle of the restaurant.
  • Nothing says Texas quite like barbecue and beer, so why not try both at The Granary ‘Cue and Brew? Here, you’ll feast on brisket, steaks and shanks made from hormone- and antibiotic-free meats, all washed down with handcrafted house beers.
  • You can’t go to Texas without sampling authentic Tex Mex, and you can get your fix 24 hours a day at Mi Tierra Café and Panaderia. Combo plates galore are the house specialty, and the roaming mariachis make you feel right at home in the heart of Texas.

Play

  • Explore an integral piece of Texan history at The Alamo, where legends like Davy Crockett gave their lives to defend this mission against the Mexican army. Stick around for one of the insightful “History Talks,” 20-minute presentations held throughout the day.
  • Soak up the atmosphere along the San Antonio River as you enjoy a stroll under the cypress trees of the River Walk, a picturesque district filled with shops, bars and restaurants along the river. Along the way, you can stop by the San Antonio Museum of Art and the historic Pearl Brewery building.
  • Want to catch a show while you’re in town? Don’t miss the Majestic Theatre, once the “it” spot for San Antonio’s socialites. Today, the Spanish Mediterranean gem continues to offer the highest quality of live performances.
