Within hours of United and American announcing they would hike their holiday airfares, Delta joined the celebration. But not everyone is celebrating these holiday airfares.
If you’re planning on traveling during Thanksgiving and New Year’s, plan to pay extra for your airline ticket.
United Airlines, American Airlines and Delta Air Lines will impose a $10 surcharge for on domestic flights for Nov. 29 (the Sunday after Thanksgiving) and on Jan. 2-3, the weekend following New Year’s Eve celebrations. US Airways said they would follow suit, but so far no announcement has been made.
JetBlue, Continental, Southwest, Alaska Airlines and AirTran have remained quiet during the fare hikes, and no announcement has been made on whether or not they’ll match the $10 charge on their holiday airline tickets.
As you would expect, airline tickets are generally higher during peak travel seasons, including Thanksgiving and the week of Christmas and New Year’s. However, the $10 surcharge is an unwelcome addition for the millions of travelers who fly during this time.
