Although the folks in Fort Worth don’t bridle at all when you call their home “Cow Town,” there’s far more to the city than Billy Bob’s Texas, the city’s signature nightspot. Like the forthcoming Fort Worth Music Festival.
Scheduled for Friday, Sept. 28 through Saturday, Sept. 29 on the lawn of Will Rogers Auditorium, the eclectic festival is attracting some marquee names this year. Some 20 acts will perform on a pair of stages. As backdrop to all the music, art is for sale by local artisans and cooking classes are being held by local chefs.
Among the performers at the 2012 iteration of the festival are:
- Kevin Eubanks, the guy who was the music director of The Tonight Show Band. Eubanks is a bodacious guitarist and a consummate composer. He’s written the scores for a slew of television movies as well as full-length indie films.
- Hayes Carll, winner of the American Songwriter’s top song of 2011. This 35 year-old songwriter “connects with music lovers across genres,” say festival promoters. Among his musical influences: Bob Dylan, John Prine and – importantly – Jack Kerouac.
- The Revered Horton Heat’s real name is Jim Heath. Under whatever guise, the guy is big, bad, brassy – and brilliant. This is an act best translated to the stage, in front of a passionate audience. Don’t let the antics fool you. Heat’s virtuosity is undeniable.
Camp Bowie District, Inc. puts on the Fort Worth Music Festival. It’s a not-for-profit group whose aim is to promote the historic, increasingly hip part of town that’s comprised of three distinct areas: On the Bricks, Ridglea and Camp Bowie West.
