All-natural environments give a much greater sense of enjoyment, calm and refreshment than urban locations.

With spring (allegedly) in full swing and another long, wet winter bidding farewell, we’re all looking forward to those vacations we’ve been dreaming of for the last few months. Only one last headache remains – choosing it! Luckily, scientists have advice at hand.

According to a study conducted by researchers at the European Centre for Environment & Human Health, all-natural environments give a much greater sense of enjoyment, calm and refreshment than urban locations.

So, if you’re outlook is as gloomy as a winter’s day in early January, a city break might not be the trick. You’re in desperate need of a trip to the beach…or the forest…or maybe a field, river or mountain.

According to the research, it doesn’t matter how old you are or how far you have to travel, exploring nature’s landscapes will always be better for your emotional well being than navigating the ones we humans have developed.

Go on. Treat yourself to that beach holiday. Your mind and body have earned it!

Brett hopes to one day reach the shores of far-flung Tristan da Cunha, the most remote of all the inhabited archipelagos on Earth…as to what he’ll do when he gets there, he hasn’t a clue. Over the last 10 years, London, New York, Cape Town and Pondicherry have all proudly been referred to as home. Now it’s Copenhagen’s turn, where he lends his travel expertise to momondo.com.
