This week, we told you about Travelocity’s new appeal for hotel-hunters searching for a bargain. Not to be outdone, Priceline announced a new application for the iPhone and iTouch that allows users last-minute access to hotel bidding.
Using its “Name Your Own Price” campaign, the company’s new application allows you to bid on hotels while you’re out and about. Deemed the “Hotel Negotiator,” it lets you choose from the top 50 US destinations from a drop-down menu, and get more specific with your city area and hotel in the process. Once you pick a place, the bidding starts.
The Hotel Negotiator then displays the current average bidding rates (without taxes or fees) for hotels of your chosen star rating in your preferred area of the city, and you’re allowed to make bids once you enter your credit card number.
Bidding results appear instantly. Same-day bookings are available until 11 p.m. the day of arrival.
While Travelocity’s new program is more about getting the cheapest price, Priceline’s new application seems to be more based on convenience than frugality.
With all these hotel bookings, all you need now is a cheap flight to fit the bill.
