Officials at Chattanooga Metropolitan Airport (CHA) have reported that passenger boardings have increased by 20 percent.

Chattanoogan.com reports that while 123,732 passengers boarded at the Tennessee airport in the second quarter of 2006, 147,979 have taken a flight in the same period this year.

Mike Landguth, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Chattanooga Metropolitan Airport Authority, told Chattanoogan.com that the airport’s growing popularity was down to a number of factors.

“Thanks to the strong support of our community, the Chattanooga Airport has added two new airlines and five new nonstop destinations over the last several years,” he said.

“More air service choices mean the airlines have to compete for our travelers’ business.

“As a result, we are seeing fares come down, and more and more passengers are flying out of Chattanooga instead of enduring the hassle and inconvenience of driving long distances to use other airports.”

Passengers at Chattanooga Metropolitan can board nonstop flights to Atlanta, Charlotte, Chicago, Cincinnati, Dallas, Houston, Memphis, Orlando, Tampa, and Washington DC.

The Tennessee hub is served by Northwest Airlink, US Airways, Continental Express, Delta Connection Carriers, Allegiant Air, and American Eagle.
