Airline passengers could face separate fees on top of ticket prices as carriers consider new ways of beating increased fuel costs.
Industry experts have suggested that several of the major airlines in the U.S. may start charging passengers separately for fuel.
According to a report from Reuters, traditional methods of dealing with rising fuel costs such as higher flight prices are failing to help airlines offset the effects of high oil prices. Robert Mann, Airline Consultant, told the news provider: “I’m convinced that you’re going to see someone try to unbundle fuel this year.”
His views were echoed by Terry Trippler from Trippler Travel, who said that airlines “really don’t have a lot of options” to offset rising fuel costs.
“If fuel continues at this level, you may have a situation where an airline prices a ticket absent fuel,” he commented.
Last year, several airlines increased ticket charges to cope with the higher cost of jet fuel.
