Beautiful, bountiful Boise. It’s not as if this mountain west enclave of culture and entertainment is waiting to be “discovered” – it’s just that it may not have been discovered yet by you. Book a flight for the weekend of May 20 through 22 and see what you’ve been missing.

Here are a few suggestions as to how to spend the time:

Apply your feet to the pedals and head to 1027 Lusk Street for “Bike-in Movie Night” Friday May 20. A special screening of a short “bike noir” film by Zach Voss starts at 6:30 p.m. It’s followed by The Triplets of Bellville. Pack along a blanket and ease into the weekend.

Go fishing in your mind. You don’t have to backpack to one of Idaho’s sparking rivers to land a respectable rainbow trout. Make tracks to Art Source Gallery May 20 and wrap your mind around Angler’s Paradise: featuring Four Major Trout. Artist Leon Gaub created the work using an acrylic process call Bacrylic. You’ll find the gallery at 1015 West Main St. Hours are 10 a.m. until 6 p.m.

Take in a band, and much some nachos at the Knitting Factory Concert House. This coming Friday May 20 Hells Belles tops the bill at 8:30 p.m. Price of admission is $13 to $30. The Knitting Factory is at 416 South Ninth St. downtown.

Get a good night’s sleep and switch gears. Eagle Island State Park is the destination, and festival is in the air Saturday May 21. The Eagle Island Experience Festival is free, although you’ll have to ante up $5 to park. The latest iteration of the Idaho festival attracts musicians, craftspeople, artists and such from the region. This year the music line-up includes Voice of Reason, Dan Costello, and Sherpa. There’s plenty to do for the kids too. Bring along lots of bottled water. Eagle Island State Park is located at 2691 Mace Road in Eagle, Idaho.

Indulge (but not too intensely) in Idaho craft brews. Beer from the barrels of 16 Idaho breweries are on tap at Bittercreek Alehouse and Red Feather Lounge this weekend as Boise does its bit to help celebrate American Craft Beer Week.

Finish up the day ill a proper finale. Saturday, May 21 marks the season finale of the Boise Philharmonic. Violinist Chee-Yun is featured for this performance. House lights dim at 8 p.m. as the orchestra’s string quartet renders Symphonie Espagnole and Symphonie Fantastique. Tickets range from $24 to $75, and performances are at the Morrison Center for the Performing Arts. That’s at 2201 Cesar Chavez Lane.

Help make all this more affordable by booking a room at the Boise Airport Holiday Inn Express. The Express Fresh Start Breakfast is free, as is shuttle service to the airport. Downtown Boise is a mere four miles distance. A standard room is yours for $92.50, taxes not included.

Search and compare cheap flights to Boise.
