When it comes to security line waits, Denver International Airport (DEN) knows it endures some of the most onerous delays in the nation. To better get a handle on the situation, look for significant changes, but only after the first of the year.

Denver International is initiating TQM – Total Queue Management. The set-up will be operated by HSS, which already provides security guards at the airport. The idea here is to better manage flow. Among other things, HSS will:

– Monitor wait times at each checkpoint, and then guide passengers to the one with the shortest wait time;

– Help flyers shed their keys, coins, and other metal objects as well as take their laptops from cases. The idea is to move folks faster through magnetometers;

– Manage lines to make sure passengers are in the right queue.

In terms of land area Denver International is the largest airport in the country. From the top of its control tower you can see Kansas on a clear day. Really. The place is a major hub for United Airlines and Frontier Airlines. One of the airport’s fastest-growing carriers is discount airline Southwest.
