The good folks of Wisconsin will gather this coming weekend to cheer their beloved Green Bay Packers in Super Bowl XLV.

Should the Pack prevail, Cheeseheads can celebrate by booking low-fare AirTran’s new nonstop flight from Milwaukee (MKE) to Cancun.

Should the Packers lose, fans can take solace in a couple of Piña Coladas down on the Mexican Riviera.

Either way, AirTran’s seasonal, Saturday-only nonstop service is set to take wing May 28th.

According to OAG, there are a slew of nonstops to Cancun from neighboring Minneapolis/St. Paul and Chicago O’Hare – but none from Milwaukee. That should change come late May.

Meanwhile, AirTran is scheduled to bring a bit of competition to the Baltimore/Washington (BWI) to San Francisco run May 26. That’s when the carrier plans to loft daily nonstop service on the route. Right now, OAG says United is the only airline offering nonstop BWI to SFO service. It will be interesting to see if—and how–United adjusts its fares when AirTran starts plying the route.

Even more interesting will be which AirTran routes stick, and which ones go away, once the merger with Southwest is complete. Both Southwest and AirTran are major players at Baltimore/ Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport. Their presence renders BWI—hands down—the Beltway’s prime purveyor of cheap flights.

Search and compare cheap flights.
