Passengers at Nashville International Airport will be the first US citizens to experience a new security program.

The Cast Scope X-ray machine will be piloted at Nashville International in an attempt to reduce security wait times for passengers with casts or prosthetic limbs.

It is hoped that the portable machine will cut the length of security checks for returning soldiers and other passengers with artificial appendages.

Lance Corporal Eric Frazier, a Tennessee Marine, told the Tennessean newspaper that his prosthetic legs typically result in lengthy delays due to security checks.

“I understand the process, and I know it’s a necessary process, but it’s an unnecessary time delay,” he said.

The new machine – also to be trialed at airports in Tampa, San Jose, and Washington DC – is able to detect weapons or explosives in a matter of seconds.
