Once upon a time airlines fed folks back in coach. Hot food. Free food. Sure, jokes abounded about airline food, but at least there was food. That’s rare now, at least free meals in coach.

Create a vacuum and the market rushes to fill it. That’s what’s happening at airports across the country. Minneapolis/St. Paul International Airport, home base for Northwest Airlines, and the site of one of its major hubs is a case in point.

A trio of new sit-down, full-service restaurants at MSP just opened. Here’s the rundown:

– French Meadow Bakery & Caf (not a typo, that’s the way they spell it). Located in the Lindbergh Terminal, its owners call it “one of the most unique restaurants in the country”. It’s an organic eatery and the first MSP restaurant with an on-site bakery. The décor is eco-friendly, with recycled sorghum tables and countertops. Even the wines at French Meadow Bakery & Caf are organic.

– Locanda D’Amico just opened out on the busy F Concourse. Casual, contemporary takes on traditional Italian cuisine is the specialty here. The wine selection is excellent.

– Rock Bottom Brewery can be found near the entrances to Concourses C and D. There’s a neat selection of handcrafted beers, made-from-scratch burgers, and sandwiches.
