Los Angeles is no stranger to bigger, better, and more glamorous upgrades, and its airport is no exception. As of yesterday, the Los Angeles Board of Airport Commissioners approved a proposal to completely revamp the airport’s international terminal.

The project will be one of the biggest public works project in the city’s history, and is set to create more than 4,000 jobs for residents. In total, it will cost $1.26 billion.

Since LAX is one of the most highly used international hubs on the west coast, the plan is to expand the Tom Bradley International Terminal to accommodate for more passengers and larger planes. To do this, the terminal will have to be partially destroyed, and replaced with two brand new concourses and nine airline gates.

The estimated time of completion is 2013.

So whether you’re booking a cheap flight to Los Angeles as a quick stop before an international destination, or LA is your final target, you can expect temporary construction and long-term modern amenities at LAX.
