It’s not surprising, but it’s happening: Airlines have hiked holiday flight prices again. Two weeks ago, we told you that it’s smarter to book now and save, than to wait and pay more. This year, the airlines are prepared to fill every seat and make a profit from it.
Earlier this year, there was a rush for airlines to add a $10 fee to fares, and last week, US Airways upped the ante and began charging $20. Most surcharges will be within the US, specifically during the many peak travel days that surround Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years. The holidays themselves are usually slow.
Airlines that have increased fares include Delta, American, United, US Airways, and Northwest.
