Furry friends helping you fly stress-free

Let’s face it, for even the most experienced travelers among us the process of getting to the airport and through security onto your flight isn’t exactly pleasant. Lines, checks, scans and more. Wouldn’t it be nice to have a little distraction  – preferably one with four paws and a wet nose!

In an attempt to brighten up your journey, San Francisco International Airport (SFO) has put together a crack team of four legged helpers. The appropriately named Wag Brigade (a group of highly trained pups) are making their way around SFO terminals to put a smile on the face of weary travelers. Members of the Wag Brigade can be identified by their “Pet Me!” vests.

All dogs (and handlers) are graduates of the San Francisco Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animal’s (SF SPCA) Animal Assisted Therapy training program. Dogs are evaluated for temperament and comfort with large crowds, security requirements and the Airport environment.

Dr. Jennifer Emmert, Animal Assisted Therapy Manager at the SF SPCA said interacting with therapy dogs is proven to offer both physical and mental health benefits.

“We’re hoping our therapy dogs will help provide stress relief to SFO passengers during the busy holiday season and beyond,” says Dr. Emmert.
