Some add ingredients like Indian fry bread or fried green tomatoes, while restaurants like Delmonico’s lay claim to the original eggs benedict.

Delmonico’s, New York, NY

Technically, the true origin of eggs benedict remains a mystery, and while Delmonico has long claimed to be the rightful birthplace of this dish, history will probably be the last thing on your mind after one bite of this eatery’s rich, creamy hollandaise over juicy ham and perfectly poached eggs. When you go, be sure to go through Delmonico’s side entrance to the Next Door Grill, where eggs benedict is served all day long.

Kachina, Westminster, Colo.

Who needs a plain English muffin when you can have your eggs benedict served on crispy, flaky Indian fry bread? While Kachina serves a traditional eggs benedict, the Kachina and Bodega versions are southwestern spins you won’t want to miss. The Kachina Benedicto is chorizo, jalapeño béarnaise and red chile drizzle on top of fry bread. The Bodega version uses braised lamb, hollandaise and chipotle agave.

Crown and Goose, Knoxville, Tenn.

At Crown and Goose in the Old City neighborhood of Knoxville, fried green tomatoes are topped with jumbo lump crab cakes, poached eggs and red pepper hollandaise to create the Eggs Chesapeake, a hearty take on the traditional eggs benedict.

Zazie, San Francisco, CA

This French bistro features seven fresh variations of eggs benedict. The La Mer is served with dungeness crab and avocado, while the Valence has roasted eggplant and spicy tomato-chevre sauce. Or, you can opt for the St. Trop, served with smoked salmon, red onions and capers.
