With all the news of late concerning the price of petroleum, it’s nice to be able to report a story like this. A company called Sustainable Power says it has been working with “an undisclosed airline” to test a blend of petroleum-based jet fuel and bio-fuel, bio-fuel derived from sources that aren’t foodstock-based. In other words, no corn.

The specific blend of traditional jet fuel is 90 percent, this to 10 percent “All-Green” bio-fuel.

AmSpec Services conducted the tests. An AmSpec official says All-Green: “met and surpassed all the standards the airline has requested from us.”

Although Sustainable Power didn’t say what the source of its bio-fuel is, Cheapflights has reported in the past that there’s a major push, buoyed by government tests, to render bio-fuel from algae. Results in that arena are promising. One of the next challenges, seemingly, for would-be purveyors of bio-fuels is to be in a position to supply the demand of an airline industry increasingly desperate for a dependable, reasonably priced, ecologically friendly way to power their flying machines.
