In the wake of Arizona’s announcement to implement SB1070 this summer, businesses and cities as a whole are boycotting the state in protest.

Yesterday, Austin, Texas made it official that it would cut off both business and travel ties with Arizona, since the law requires police to detain people who they suspect may be illegal immigrants.

The only travel that is encouraged will be those trips related to police investigations, humanitarian efforts, or for protecting the health and safety of Austin’s citizens.

Austin will also undergo a review of all its city business investments, and hopes to create a plan that will effectively end those ties. One reason to sever the connection is to avoid the risk of Austin’s employees being detained under the law.

This week, Los Angeles also announced a ban on Arizona travel.
