Fernando de Noronha (Brazil)
- Archipelago of 21 islands and islets
- 220 miles off the Brazilian coast in the Atlantic Ocean
- Population of a little over 3,000
Block Island (USA)
- Separated from mainland Rhode Island by Block Island Sound
- 12 miles off the coast in the Atlantic
- Just over a 1,000 inhabitants
Mljet (Croatia)
- Part of the Adriatic islands
- Just off the Dalmatia stretch of Croatia’s coast
- Less than 400 people live on the island
Huahine (French Polynesia)
- Part of the Îles sous le Vent island group
- Over 2,500 miles from New Zealand’s North Island in the South Pacific Ocean
- Population of around 6,000
Dunk Island (Australia)
- Part of the Family Islands National Park in the Great Barrier Reef
- 2.5 miles off Queensland coast
- Around 500 (staff working island’s hotels and tourists) inhabit the island at any given time
