After 20 years without established travel routes, Iraqi Airways and French authorities have begun planning for direct flights between Baghdad and Paris, according to Reuters.

Iraq’s national airline plans to confirm the routes with Paris some time this month, and would like to resume weekly flights between the two cities. A drop in violence in the Middle Eastern city and a rise in investor interest have spurred the change.

It’s become a trend over the past 18 months, and a handful of European airlines are reopening direct flights between their cities and the Iraqi base. Recently, Iraqi Airways began flying to Stockholm, and has said it would also like to add German cities to its repertoire next.
