One of Mexico’s most famous hotspots, Acapulco offers its visitors sand, sun, and surf. The one time “Love Boat” stop remains a jewel in the Mexican Pacific Riviera and provides the tourist seeking the perfect Mexico vacation all the amenities required to enjoy a trip south of the border. While it’s unlikely you’ll have Julie McCoy to plan your itinerary, we’re confident you’ll find plenty to do on your own.
Don’t deny your first instincts after your flight to Acapulco (ACA) lands: head straight to the golden sand beaches, rest after your long flight and soak in the sun.
At night when the sun sets, the city really heats up and comes to life. The seaside city’s main drag, the Avenida Costera Miguel Alemán, or simply “la Costera,” is decorated with cafes, restaurants, shops, and hotels that cater to all types of travelers.
Many Mexico travelers head just outside of the heart of the city to take in the views in Las Brisas and enjoy the legendary Acapulco nightlife. Abundant hillside restaurants provide the perfect setting for a delicious dinner overlooking the glamorous and glimmering lights in Acapulco Bay.
While the fresh seafood at top restaurants and steamy nightlife at the local clubs will keep you craving more, the city’s most famous draw remains the cliff divers of La Quebrada. Brave divers hurl themselves off the majestic cliffs and plunge towards a shallow inlet. The fearless few perfectly time their leap based on the incoming waves from the 45-meter height to safely splash into the Pacific. A remarkable feat that occurs through the day, and an Acapulco attraction that can’t be missed!
Insider Tip: For a taste of the Acapulco nightlife, head to the Palladium nightclub. The well-known hot-spot provides stunning views of the bay from its dance floor. All taxi drivers know the location by name.
Acapulco Hotels: For a luxury stay, the 15-story Aztec pyramid inspired iconic Acapulco Princess is located just 15 minutes from the bustle of downtown. The resort hotel features lush gardens, swim up bars, fine dining options and a private beach area. The budget-conscience Acapulco traveler can find reasonable rates in the city at hotels including the Romano Palace.
Acapulco Flights: You can find Acapulco flights from New York from $460; flights from Chicago are $519 and in many cases will require a layover in Mexico City.
