When the weather turns wretched, or your flight is cancelled, a good airport hotel is a lifesaver. To that end, a head’s up for folks flying through Newark Liberty International (EWR). The former Four Points by Sheraton (Web site: www.fourpoints.com_ is now a Crowne Plaza (Web site: www.crowneplaza.com).

The name change comes after a major $10 million makeover. The 11-story, 260-room hotel offers outdoor and indoor pools, a fitness center, business center, and free airport shuttle to any of EWR’s terminals.

To try to help you get some shut-eye for that early morning flight, Crowne Plaza offers something called “Sleep Advantage.” Staff are trained, says the company, “on how to create and maintain a restful environment.” There’s new bedding, guaranteed wake-up calls, designated quiet zones, night-lights, drape clips and even sleep CDs .

This new Crowne Plaza could get considerable use by those looking for a good sleep and an early wake-up call. More than 36 million flyers passed through Newark last year. The airport is Continental Airlines’ prime international gateway.
