Montreal-Pierre Elliott Trudeau International became the first Canadian airport to welcome the Airbus 380 this week.
The world’s largest airliner touched down at Gate 55 on Monday (November 12) morning, following a year-long preparation plan which saw taxiways widened and a new international jetty constructed.
James Cherry, President and Chief Executive of Aeroports de Montreal, said: “The introduction of the Airbus A380 is an eloquent example of the constant changes taking place in the air transportation industry and to which airports must adapt.
“At Montreal-Trudeau, the bulk of the preparations for the A380 were completed as part of the terminal expansion and modernization program.”
The new gate, which will be the primary boarding gate for the aircraft, includes two loading bridges, which allow access to both the upper and lower decks of the plane, and an expanded lounge providing accommodation for 690 passengers.
