Elton John at Caesars Palace

Is there anything more Vegas than taking in an Elton John show at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace? Bringing all the glitz, glamor and gaudiness expected of the Rocket Man to one of the Strip’s most famous stays, the concert is part of the singer’s 2011 tour and will be rolling into Vegas on Oct. 1. The show is called “The Million Dollar Piano,” apparently because Sir Elton will be playing on a piano that Yamaha has been working on for four years – it’s absolutely fabulous, dahling! Described by the man himself as “a gargantuan feast of music and imagery,” this will not be a disappointment. Expect Elton to tickle the old ivories and belt out a classic or two in true superstar style, and sway like a candle in the wind to his crooners.

Nuit Blanche Paris

For one night only, cities around the world will be transformed by artists. From Toronto to Tokyo, art lovers will spend sleepless nights as hundreds of free exhibitions take over the streets, galleries, and public spaces from sunset to sunrise. Where better to enjoy the spectacle than where it originated, in chic Paris? Explore the city of lights after dark on Oct. 1, when the streets take on a carnival atmosphere, and midnight snacks are offered. The promised sights include purple rain falling from the sky at Hôtel d’Albret and a huge bonfire inside the Ronsard gymnasium, intended to “tickle the tribal instinct of city dwellers.” Bring it on, we say.

Taste of DC

Feeling famished? From Oct. 8-10, the US capital gets cooking, with over 80 top restaurants setting up shop on the iconic Pennsylvania Avenue. They’ll be giving out lip-smacking samples of their fare, and there are plenty of tasty tipples on offer from elite wineries and breweries to wash it down. Multiple stages host music and comedy, as well as opportunities to watch DC’s best up-and-coming chefs battle it out in cooking competitions on the culinary stage.

Eurochocolate, Perugia

Chocoholics rejoice! From Oct. 14-23, Umbria’s capital goes coco-bean crazy. In the main square artists carve giant sculptures out of three-foot-high blocks of chocolate, giving free trimmings to visitors; elsewhere banquets, cooking competitions and chocolate masterclasses are held. In addition to scrumptious samples of the stuff from all over the world, there’s a mouth-watering array of chocolate delicacies on offer, from pasta to liqueur. If you find your sweet tooth flagging, why not book an indulgent spa visit featuring chocolate facemasks and beauty treatments? And who said chocolate was bad for you?
