When the economy fluctuates, experts agree, disagree, and can sometimes contradict. Travel has been a hot issue, since flights and hotels have been so cheap this year. We’ve learned that the airline industry may not bounce back as quickly as other businesses, but what does that mean for the traveler? CNN thinks it means that in 2010, the deals will just keep on getting better.

How? The news source points to two research firms to find answers. Mintel, an international market and consumer research firm, says that sales for the most part will remain the same, and that flights and hotel prices will actually drop by 2 percent each.

Another firm, Deloitte & Touche predicts that people traveling for pleasure will be able to seek out deals and specials, which works to their advantage. Hotels listen to what consumers want, and if that’s a free night every so often, that’s what the consumer will get. Airlines are playing the same game, and are also boosting incentives and offering cheap flights.

Why? CNN points to Peter Yesawich, a travel expert who said that a little more than half of travelers who answeres a survey say that they’ll stay fewer nights in hotels, which may push hotels to drop prices to keep guests for longer periods of time.

What does this mean for the budget-savvy traveler? Good things.
