Want to fly nonstop from San Francisco International Airport to Mexico’s second-largest city? Right now, OAG says you can’t. But that’s going to change July 4 when Aeromexico launches San Francisco flights to Guadalajara.
Until then San Francisco flyers have to travel to the South Bay to catch a San Jose flight to Guadalajara. Both Alaska and discount airline Volaris ply the route.
A few days after Aeromexico starts up San Francisco flights to Guadalajara, it will move inland to the state capital to launch GDL service. Daily nonstop Sacramento flights to Guadalajara take wing July 16.
Aeromexico’s southbound Sacramento to Guadalajara flights push back from the gate in the wee hours, at 1:10 a.m. They arrive GDL at 7:10 a.m. Northbound Guadalajara flights to Sacramento depart at 10:10 a.m., and get to SMF at 12:05 a.m.
Aeromexico’s move means there will be competition on the Sacramento run. Alaska already makes the trip Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.
Aeromexico’s decision also means the return of foreign airline service into Sacramento. “Aeromexico understands the strength of our market,” says G. Hardy Acree, director of airports for the Sacramento County Airport System.
Guadalajara is an Aeromexico regional jet hub – a prime penetration point for flights not just to other major Mexican cities, but smaller destinations as well. From GDL you can connect to Chihuahua, Ciudad Juarez, Ciudad Obregon, Culiacan, Hermosillo, La Paz, Los Mochis, Mazatlan, Merida, Mexico City, Monterrey, Puerto Vallarta, Tijuana, Torreon, Veracruz, and Villahermosa.
