One of the West’s premier ski and fun venues is getting revamped flight schedules, schedules that might mean more time on the snow. The essence of what’s happening at Mammoth Mountain is earlier flights in and later flights out.

Some cities are getting earlier flights into Mammoth Yosemite Airport, with commensurately later departures back to the workaday world. The new winter/spring 2012-2013 flight schedule will see daily United Express flights from San Diego getting in a tad after 9 a.m., and departing at 4:45 p.m. United Express’ weekend flights from Orange County extend that weekend a bit by adding a Monday flight. More flexibility still? Alaska Airlines have resumed  daily nonstop service out of Los Angeles International, and adds a second daily (save Saturday) nonstop come Dec. 19. United Express offers daily nonstops from San Francisco, doubling up on those dailies four days per week.

Mammoth Yosemite Airport is a mere ten-minute drive from Mammoth Lakes via US Highway 395. The airport is 15 minutes from Mammoth Mountain Resort, and shuttle service is available.

While the snow can be scintillating, The Village is the real hub of what’s happening at Mammoth Mountain. Need to get fitted with gear? Consider Mountain Center. It’s in The Village, near the statue of Dave McCoy. Fuel for tomorrow’s ski runs? The menu is rife with options: Mexican, fine dining or comfort food. If the mountain has worn you out there’s always shopping.

Mammoth Mountain attracts some 1.3 million skier visits per year, rendering it the third most frequented ski resorts in the country according to the folks who run it. That’s why good airlift into this stretch of northern California is so important.
