Airport Overview

Page sections

Salt Lake City International Airport (SLC) is about four miles (6.5km) from the city center of Salt Lake City, the capital of Utah and the largest city in the US southwest. The airport sees a whopping 21 million passengers a year, and flights to Salt Lake City Airport come to and from major hubs across the country, as well as Paris, Tokyo, Toronto and destinations in Mexico.

Only 15 minutes from the city center and less than half an hour from 1.3 million jobs, this is a popular airport for business travel and for millions of ordinary travelers in the area. It's a very well-equipped airport, so if you've got a long stopover, don't despair - there are loads of things to keep you busy here, from DVD player rental to decent shops and restaurants to an 18-hole golf course. Kids will love the fully-equipped play areas in Terminal 1.

Airport Facilities

Money and communications: Zions Bank in Terminal 2 offers currency exchange services, and there are ATMs throughout the airport.

Luggage: There are no left-luggage facilities for security reasons. For lost-luggage queries, contact the airline concerned. Porters are on hand to carry your bags (for tips). There are luggage carts available, although they'll cost you $3, with just a $0.25 refund when you return the cart. There's also a lost-and-found office in Terminal 1.

Conference and business: The Delta Air Lines' Sky Club lounge is located in the connector between Concourses C and D, with complimentary snacks, drinks, newspapers, Internet and fax, as well as conference facilities. If you're not a member, there are fax facilities and photocopiers in the Zions Bank or in Regus Express, both in Terminal 2.

Other facilities: Children's play areas, FedEx and US Mail post-boxes, baby-changing facilities in all bathrooms, language assistance and translation services, pet-relief areas, telephones throughout the airport, shoeshine stands, and DVD player rental.

Wi-Fi: There is free Wi-Fi at the airport. Simply set your SSID to “slcairport.Wi-Fi” and launch your browser.

Shopping: There are a number of newsagents, bookstores and sweet stores throughout the airport terminals, as well as a toy store. For a unique memento, head for Spirit of the Red Horse (one in each terminal), which stocks jewelry designed by local American-Indian artists.

Food and drink: What Salt Lake City Airport lacks in shopping, it makes up for in eateries. There are plenty of coffee shops, fast-food joints and snack vendors to choose from, including the usual Krispy Kreme, Starbucks, Quizno’s, Pizza Hut, California Pizza Kitchen, Cinnabon and Burger King. For something different, try Manchu Wok, Granato's Italian Deli, Dick Clarke's American Grandstand Grill or gourmet dining at Wolfgang Puck. For a sweet treat, grab a frozen yogurt from TCBY.
