Airport Overview

Named after the first prime minister of Barbados, Grantley Adams International Airport (BIG) is the Eastern Caribbean’s main airport. Located in Christchurch, Barbados, 10 miles (16 km) southeast of the capital city Bridgetown, there are flights to Grantley Adams International Airport from cities around Europe, Canada, Central and South America, Africa as well as neighboring Caribbean islands.

In the past decade the airport received a much-needed upgrade. The addition of a second terminal allowed for separate arrivals and departures areas – although the old and new terminal appear as one thanks to a tented atrium that joins them together.

With marble floors, colorful mosaics and completely refurbished interiors, Grantley Adams International is a compact yet spacious airport with a relaxed and modern feel. Improved check-in and baggage claim facilities and a brand new retail concourse, in addition to friendly and helpful staff and reliable transport, ensure a pleasant experience.

Terminal Transfer

The terminal buildings are separated by a small atrium through which passengers walk.

Getting into Town

Taxi: Taxis operate on a fixed-fare basis that must be agreed upon before departing. BDS 42 (about £13) is the average cost of a trip to the center of Bridgetown.

Bus: A Mercedes-Benz bus service departs for Bridgetown every 30 minutes, between 6am and midnight. The bus stop is on the main road in front of the terminal building and the duration of the trip is 45 minutes.

Car Parking

Open-air parking is available next to the airport at a rate of BDS 2 (about £0.60) per hour and BDS 12 (£4 approximately) per day.

Other facilities: There is a pharmacy and a chapel.
