Airline Guide for Cathay Pacific Airlines

Airline Overview

Cathay Pacific has its headquarters at Hong Kong International Airport. Legend has it that the airline was conceived by American Roy C. Farrell and some foreign correspondents at the bar of the Manila Hotel. Cathay Pacific operates scheduled passenger and cargo services to more than 100 destinations world wide.

Check-in

Online check-in is available to members (and their traveling companions) of The Marco Polo Club and Asia Miles and to those who have booked online and hold an e-ticket. Cathay Pacific passengers can check-in and select their seats from 48 hours up to 90 minutes before departure. Boarding passes can be picked up from the online check-in counter or via the CXpress check-in kiosk.

Baggage

Carry-on: In all classes, Cathay Pacific passengers (except infants) are allowed one carry-on bag up to 22 x 14 x 9 in. Weight limits vary by class of service, in economy the maximum weight is 15lbs.

Checked: For travelers to and from the U.S., Canada, and some South American countries, Cathay Pacific permits two bags no heavier than 70lbs. The baggage allowance for all other routes is 44lbs in economy class.

Excess: Charges vary by departure airport and are only available by telephoning the applicable Cathay Pacific reservations office.

Pets

Cathay Pacific does transport pets; however, travelers going to Hong Kong need to apply for an import permit for their pet, even for transit. Animals, other than service dogs, are not permitted in the passenger cabin. Pets such as dogs, cats, and birds will be crated and transported in the cargo compartment.

In-flight Service

Cathay Pacific economy class offers "a great selection of food and beverages including a variety of regional dishes as well as snacks (such as ice cream and noodles)"; long-haul business class flights offer a choice of four entrées; First Class serves haute cuisine-style five course lunch or dinner.
