Confused as to what you can bring on board or what the wait time is at your airport’s security line? The Transportation Security Administration recently rolled out an app that should help.

MyTSA aims to answer the most commonly asked questions, and do it on your mobile device. Rendering the application even more useful is a feed from the Federal Aviation Administration that shows delays at every U.S. airport. That could come in handy during the summer, when pop-up thunderstorms play havoc with airline schedules.

TSA appears to be betting that the ‘Can I Bring?’ tool will get plenty of exercise. To that end it allows you to type in a specific item to see if it’s verboten.

MyTSA, in brief, offers:

  • Airport Status: See what airports are experiencing delays, or search for conditions at a specific field. The tool won’t give you flight-specific delays.
  • ‘Can I Bring?’: As advertised, this lets you focus in on what you can take through security and what you can’t.
  • Guide: Just what’s encompassed in the 3-1-1 rule for liquids? How are special medical needs handled? How should you pack and dress to ease your passage through security? How about food and gifts? This tool answers these and other questions.
  • Security wait time: How long might you be in line? Look and see.
  • Wait time: You get to post how long it took you to traverse TSA security. Put it out so fellow travelers can see.

Download MyTSA on your mobile device today and give it a try.
