Hundreds of travelers are struggling to find Rome flights home a day after dozens of flights were canceled at Rome’s Leonardo da Vinci airport.

According to local news agency Agenzia Giornalistica Italia, passengers were lining up at ticket counters this morning (Dec. 23) in hopes to rebook Rome flights home for the holidays.

Police were brought in to control angry travelers, many of whom had to spend last night on airport seats because hotels were sold out.

The strike was called by baggage handlers and maintenance staff on Dec. 22. They were protesting against CAI, a group of investors pushing for a smaller, and what they believe will be a more efficient Alitalia.
