The security measures heard ‘round the world did little to cause a fuss this Thanksgiving holiday.
With fears of Thanksgiving travel being crowded, disrupted and boycotted, there were few incidents of uproar this holiday weekend, in a pleasant surprise for holiday fliers.
Reports showed that security flew by quickly and efficiently through Washington’s DCA on Tuesday afternoon, and a first-person blog post on the Washington Post says that there was no uproar by the airport’s body scanners.
A TSA official said publicly that “Everything went smoothly overall” and accounted for very few problems or delays. They also said that “Wait times at more than 450 airports nationwide were consistent with past holiday travel periods with many airports experiencing minimal lines.”
Atlanta’s Hartsfield International Airport is the country’s busiest, and reports say that only 39 passengers out of 47,000 opted not to pass through the full-body scanner on Wednesday, the day before Thanksgiving – which is long known as the busiest travel day of the year.
Some of the longest wait-times for security in Detroit were recorded around 20 minutes.
While some travelers still argue that the scanners go against the Fourth Amendment which prohibits unreasonable searches and seizures, it seems like most are happy to oblige with security measures.
