Airport Overview

Pulkovo Airport (LED) is located roughly 12 miles from downtown St Petersburg, Russia. One of the busiest airports in the country, Pulkovo is a hub for Rossiya Airlines and processes nearly 9 million passengers each year.

The airport can best be described as “no frills,” with little to offer in the way of shopping or restaurants. One of the major complaints is the high prices, with a sandwich costing sometimes six times the price of a cafe in town. The airport also tends toward chaos, especially if you use popular Russian airline Aeroflot. Once you’re past security, it’s best to find your gate as soon as possible and take your cues from other passengers, as information is often only posted in Cyrillic.

Flights to Pulkovo Airport come from cities all over Europe and Asia in addition to the numerous domestic routes within Russia, including Rome, Paris, London, Tel Aviv, Helsinki, Beijing, Amsterdam, Warsaw, Oslo, Sharm-el-Sheikh, Copenhagen, Stockholm, Barcelona, Frankfurt, Bangkok, Istanbul, and Phuket.

Terminal Transfer

The terminals are about 1.7 miles apart, but there is a free shuttle service between Terminal 1 (domestic) and Terminal 2 (international).

Getting into Town

Train: There is no train service from the airport.

Bus: The city bus stop is opposite the exit to arrivals hall 1. City Bus No. 39 runs between Terminal 1 and Moskovskaya metro station every 12-20 minutes between 5:30am and 1:30am; the trip takes 30-35 minutes. City Bus No. 13 stops in front of Terminal 2 every 13-20 minutes between 5:40am (6am on weekends) and 12:47am; the trip takes 20-25 minutes. There are two stops in front of the terminal; the stop closer to the arrivals hall goes to Moskovskaya metro station, while that closer to the departures area runs to Aviagorodok.

Taxi: Taxis are available outside of the terminal.
