Passengers flying from Charles M Schulz-Sonoma County Airport in Santa Rosa, California, may have to pay more for tickets to help fund airport improvements.

Officials from the site have applied to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) for permission to charge customers an additional $4.50.

The money would be collected as a passenger facility charge, with the fee introduced in April, reports the Press Democrat. Jon Stout, Manager of the airport, told the newspaper that the fee would generate $1.7 million for facility improvements over the next four years.

Horizon Air operates daily nonstop flights from the airport to Los Angeles, Seattle and Portland.

Dan Russo, the carrier’s Marketing Director, said the fee is charged at the majority of airports. He commented: “While we’re concerned about raising the price of tickets, the fact is that they’re charged at most airports, including Oakland and San Francisco.”
