Port Columbus International Airport is to reconsider expansion plans in light of a recent decline in passenger numbers and a reduction in flights.

Airport officials have suggested that work on the terminal – which has already started – will not be complete until 2018 as alterations are considered.

The new terminal building was originally expected to be operational by 2015, however the bankruptcy of Columbus-based carrier Skybus and a drop in passengers has prompted planners to review the plans.

JetBlue also stopped services to the airport in January and Delta Air Lines intends to cut its Columbus schedule over the coming months.

Elaine Roberts, Chief Executive of the Columbus Regional Airport Authority, told The Columbus Dispatch that these withdrawals will delay the building work.
