Need a reason to plan a trip to New York City? Aside from the cheap flights to New York that airlines continue to discount, and the hundreds of New York hotel options that are offering everything from free meals to free nights, now you can add a bit of history to your trip planning: The crown of the Statue of Liberty will reopen in July.

The crown was closed after the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks and will reopen on July 4, according to Interior Secretary Ken Salazar.

In an effort to keep visitors safe and comfortable during the 168-step climb up the narrow spiral staircase to the crown, only 30 visitors an hour will be allowed in and each group must be guided by a park ranger.

As if the shopping, theater, restaurants and nightlife wasn’t enough of a draw to New York, the historic re-opening of the State of Liberty’s crown is sure to delight.

One tip: If you plan to go to the Statue of Liberty, get there early. The lines get longer as the day gets later.
