Approval has been granted for a terminal modernization project at Sacramento International Airport.

The $1.3 billion improvement plan will see the 40-year-old Terminal B building enhanced to meet the standards of increased demand from passengers.

Additional parking spaces would be added as part of the renovation work, which would also see an additional 680,000 square feet added to the terminal capacity and a new hotel attached.

Jimmie Yee, Chairman of the Sacramento County Board of Supervisors, told the Sacramento Business Journal: “Sacramento County is extremely pleased to learn that another significant action has been taken to clear the way for construction to begin on the modernization of our international airport.

“The extensive and exciting improvements planned for the airport are critical to meeting the needs of our region’s growing population and economy.”

Work is expected to start this fall, with the airport keen to attract new carriers and routes by the time the project is complete.
