Competition begets wondrous things – more options, sometimes even lower fares.
Frontier Airlines just kicked off nonstop service from Kansas City to a couple of destinations. Going head-to-head with discount airline Southwest, Frontier now offers daily Kansas City flights to Houston Hobby, as well as almost daily Kansas City flights to Las Vegas.
Frontier E190 regional jets, the craft with the North American wildlife on their tails make the Kansas City – Houston run. Kansas City flights to Las Vegas operate every day save Saturday. Full-size A319s do the duty this time. Westbound flights depart MCI at 5:50 p.m. and get to LAS at 6:50 p.m. Return Las Vegas flights to Kansas City leave at 6:05 p.m. and arrive MCI at 8:45 p.m.
While Frontier’s new flights are up and running you’ll have to wait until April 10 to catch Alaska Airlines’ new Bay Area nonstops to Honolulu. Hawaiian Airlines is the competition here.
Alaska’s long-range 737s will compete against Hawaiian’s widebodies between both Oakland and Honolulu, and San Jose and Honolulu.
Oakland flights to Honolulu will depart at 8:55 a.m. daily and arrive HNL at 11:20 a.m. Return Honolulu flights to Oakland push back form the gate at 1:55 p.m. and arrive at the East Bay aerodrome at 9:55 p.m.
San Jose flights to Honolulu depart at 10:30 a.m. and get to the gate at Honolulu International at 12:55 p.m. This too is a daily foray. Return Honolulu flights to San Jose push back at 12:20 p.m. and arrive at the South Bay airport at 8:20 p.m.
