In an era where more airlines are serving less food, airports are filling fliers’ bellies. Oakland International (OAK) is a case in point.

California Pizza Kitchen (CPK) has set up a new CPK ASAP shop in Terminal Two. That’s terrific, because Terminal Two is the place from which discount airline Southwest fields its flights, and Southwest does not serve meals.

CPK ASAP offers a bunch of grab and go goodies, the kind of stuff that travels well. In addition to hearth-baked pizza, there are salads and sandwiches.

The place also serves up breakfast for those catching an early flight. One of the best sellers in the early morning is CPK’s Canadian bacon, Egg & Cheese Panini. It packs well.

Oakland International is the Bay Area’s prime low-fare launchpad. It hosts discount airlines Southwest, JetBlue, and ATA Airlines. Cross-bay rival San Francisco International Airport (SFO), however, is catching up. Southwest intends to restart service from SFO, and JetBlue is launching flights.
