As airlines cut back on food and drink (at least the free variety) airports are increasing their offerings. Vino Volo’s debut at Detroit Metro Airport is a case in point.
You’ll find the wine bar near Gate A-45, in the McNamara Terminal. It’s from the McNamara that Northwest Airlines fields its flights.
Vino Volo offer wine by the glass, or by “the flight”. In the latter case, wines from around the world are displayed side-by-side. A sip here, a sip there and the pressures of the day sort of fade away.
Vino Volo offers a nice small-plate menu, with locally produced artisan cheese and dry-cured meats to go along with the drink.
Vino Volo’s Detroit shop is located post-security, so there’s no problem taking a bottle along in your carry-on. Just leave a bit of room.
Detroit is not Vino Volo’s solo location. You’ll find the sophisticated wine shops on Concourse C at Washington, DC Dulles International (IAD), the Central Terminal Marketplace at Seattle/Tacoma International (SEA), Terminal A at Sacramento International (SMF), Terminal A at Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI), Terminal 8 at New York Kennedy (JFK), and the B/C Connector at Philadelphia International (PHL).
