Planning on heading to Las Vegas this year? Don’t bet on funding your trip by striking it rich on the slots; instead, let this guide to Las Vegas on the cheap help you stretch your travel dollars in Sin City.

Stay

Unless you’re a high roller at one of the prime Vegas casinos, you’ll generally have to pay a pretty penny to stay on The Strip and there are a number of motel chains surrounding The Strip with more palatable prices. But you don’t necessarily have to stay off-Strip to save a buck or two: To stay in the middle of the action, check out Circus Circus, Excalibur, Flamingo, Riviera and Stratosphere.

Dining

If there’s one thing Las Vegas does right, it’s cheap food specials throughout the day. Whether you’re in the mood for prime rib, steak or a hearty breakfast, you’ll find specials flashing in neon lights throughout the city. Nathan’s Hot Dogs in New York-New York and Tacos El Gordo on Las Vegas Boulevard are two solid choices for a la carte dining, while Ellis Island offers up unbeatable deals on New York steak. Expect to spend less than $10 for a decent meal on and around The Strip.

Entertainment

There’s no shortage of free entertainment throughout Las Vegas. Walking down The Strip, you can see the Bellagio fountains create dancing jets of water or watch as pirates give into a siren’s song in front of Treasure Island. Head into Harrah’s to watch a musical showdown during the nightly piano duel, or take a walk down to Fremont Street to see the lights of the Fremont Street Experience. If you want to catch a performance by the likes of Cirque de Soleil, visit one of the Tix4Tonight booths (located throughout Las Vegas) to score up to half off tickets for a same-day show.

Gambling

So, you want to make like any Vegas visitor and gamble the day away? For low-limit tables for games like blackjack and craps, try Casino Royale, Circus Circus, New York-New York or Harrah’s. For cheap slots – and cheaper gambling grub – definitely check out Slots’A’Fun next to Circus Circus.
