Indian carrier Kingfisher Airlines has said it is awaiting clearance from the Department of Transportation (DOT) to introduce a service between New York’s John F Kennedy Airport and Bangalore.

Aircraft will be delivered in April, but the service will not be rolled out until the summer, when a decision from the DOT is expected and the fleet of long-haul planes finalized.

Vijay Mallya, Chairman and Chief Executive of Kingfisher, told India’s Economic Times that A330/340 planes will be used to provide direct flights between the U.S. and India.

The airline representative also explained that construction work is about to begin on Kingfisher First-Class lounges at JFK and San Francisco International – where a flight to Bangalore will be added in August.

Fellow Indian carrier Jet Airways announced in December that it will introduce a service from San Francisco to Delhi next month.
