Estimated thousands of passengers have been stranded for days, with mere glimmers of hope in flying out of Heathrow International Airport by Christmas Eve.
Terminals 3 and 5 in London have endured mass crowds of people sleeping throughout floors on makeshift beds. Some guessed that there were between 5,000-6,000 travelers stuck in the airport.
A group of 50 American students were interviewed, who say that British Airways had no possible way of splitting them up and could not fly them out until there was a plane that could fit all of them together. BA’s web site crashed on Monday due to an overhaul of people researching, canceling and rescheduling online.
The airport has been operating on extremely reduced capacity and was down to one runway. Reportedly, swing in the temperature at Heathrow caused even more difficulty that created ice build-up around aircrafts, and kept them parked on the ground.
