Still haven’t made plans where to vacation with the kids this summer? Here are a few East Coastcentric options. From Walt Disney World to Fort Mc Henry the opportunities are ample. Consider:

Walt Disney World accommodations for families of five or more just might be within easier reach than you think. There are eight Disney Deluxe Resort hotels that cater to larger groups of folks. Disney Deluxe Villa Resort hotels can sleep up to eight and nine guests. This presents the perfect chance for families to partner, reserve a two-room villa, and save some money. One thing you’ll want to look into is the new Disney Art of Animation Resort.

Disney’s great, but the scenery along the mythic Blue Ridge Parkway is unbeatable. Put on a more measured pace. Slow down and savor Appalachian air as the Parkway meanders for 469 sublime, at times breathtaking, miles. Stop where you will. Don’t hurry things. Sign the kids up as Junior Rangers and open up a natural world they’ve only seen on TV.

Get off the Blue Ridge and head north, to Baltimore. Plan to spend a day on the Inner Harbor, at the National Aquarium. Been there before? Do it again. There’s something new all the time. This is one of the planet’s great aquariums, a magnet for aquatic aficionados the world over. More than 16,000 animals inhabit the soaring National Aquarium. Come see how they, and we, fit together on this small blue globe.

Before you leave Baltimore, head out to Fort McHenry. It was here, in mid-September 1814, that Francis Scott Key was inspired by the rockets’ red glare to pen the words to our National Anthem. If you can, be there Memorial Day, May 28 for a poetry reading commemorating those who gave their last full measure for their country. Among the classics: “Flanders’ Fields,” and “Bivouac of the Dead.” That same day, Fort McHenry Rangers and the Fife and Drum Corps honor the fallen at a trio of historic cemeteries.
