Bond with friends and family – Camping simplifies the way you spend your days, placing an extra emphasis on the relationships around you. Without the distractions of the modern world, there’s more time for conversation, and the basic trials of pitching a tent, cooking and exploring are the more rare kind of daily moments that develop cooperation, trust and patience.
Cut the cord – Have you noticed how reliant you’ve become on technology? Can you remember the last day where you didn’t check your work emails, get on Facebook or watch TV? All that information can be overbearing. Sometimes it’s good to just disconnect…to escape the clutches of your job…be free of advertising.
Trade hectic for peaceful – City life can be serious sensory overload. Humans need time to get outside, relax and give the mind a rest. A dose of rustling leaves, trickling water and birdsong is the trick.
Gaze at the stars – Thanks to light pollution, the only stars you’ll likely see in the city are usually spotted wearing haute couture through the windows of a restaurant you can’t afford. You’ll be stunned at how many stars you can see in the night sky away from an urban area.
Develop independence and resilience – Temporarily saying goodbye to all the comforts of home takes courage. Living without them takes resilience and ingenuity. Camping makes you aware of your weaknesses, makes you face your self-doubts and shows you how much you rely on others.
