Looking to travel abroad? Airlines are serving up discounts on trips as close as Halifax, and as far away as Hong Kong. First, let’s look at some northern neighbor rates.

United/Continental can fly you from one of its US hubs to Canada and back this coming weekend for a lot less than you might imagine. Buy your ticket before 11:59 p.m. Central Time Friday Dec. 2. Fly out after 7 p.m. Dec. 2, or all day Saturday Dec. 3. Return Monday Dec. 12 or Tuesday Dec. 13. These rates are quoted round-trip. But taxes and fees are not included.

  • Chicago flights o Vancouver are $338.
  • Los Angeles flights to Vancouver are $338.

Considerably farther afield are Delta’s flights from Detroit to the Far East. Book and buy no later than Monday Dec. 12. Fly outbound Jan. 12 through April 2, 2012. Return by July 2, 2012. You’ll have to make a round-trip purchase, but here’s the critical number to qualify for these fares: you’ll have to stay over at least 10 days. These fares are each-way, and they’re predicated on a round-trip purchase. Taxes and fees are not included.

If you could just pack up and go, which of these Asian cities would you visit?
