Disneyland Resorts is undoubtedly a successful example of many things in business, but one unexpected issue it seems to also captain, is environmental initiatives. It recently won the 2009 Environmental and Economic Leadership Award for voluntarily preserving California’s resources, building partnerships, and enhancing the environment while maintaining a strong commitment to economic growth.
Here are a few eco-friendly reasons to book a flight to California and visit this green park:
The Paradise Bay Refill:
When the water was drained from this human-made bay to make way for “World of Color” a temporary nighttime exhibit, the removal of water was painstakingly thought our in order to save all environmental cost. Although it took more time and cost more money, the people at Disneyland purified the water, moved it through an extensive underground system, and stored it in a protective underground basin so that it wouldn’t harm any wildlife.
The Disneyland Railroad:
Hop on board this smartly-designed ride. The Disneyland Railroad is run completely by recycled cooking oil that fuels the steam. By doing this, the park saves approximately 200,000 gallons of petroleum diesel per year, and reduces emissions by up to 80 percent.
The Central Bakery:
As tasty as it sounds, it’s also good for the planet. The Central Bakery’s new environmental features include Energy Star rated refrigeration, a roof filled with tubular skylights that are mirrored inside, and big, double-paneled windows that let more light in while insulating from the heat. The parking lot also uses porous asphalt that filters and recycles rainwater so that it safely returns to the ground. Lastly, extra food products like dough, flours, and grains get added to livestock feed.
Cheap flights to San Diego start at just $219, so gather your family and get ready to explore this fun, sustainable paradise.
