Now more than ever, travelers need to know how to spot a deal.
Right now, the aviation industry is striking a delicate balance. As 2010 began, airlines were off to a good start, but when volcanic ash loomed over Europe, it (quite literally) loomed over the industry’s financial position as well.
The International Air Transport Association reports that the crisis impacted 29 percent of global aviation and approximately 1.2 million passengers each day, eclipsing the chaos that surrounded the United States’ airspace on September 11, 2001.
Considering the airlines’ attempts to accommodate for that lapse, and in combination with strikes and rising fuel costs this year, it’s become more important to search for the cheapest flight possible. Airlines may need to increase prices to stay afloat, and some studies predict that prices could rise by 11.5 percent by 2012. Due to the rising economy and improved passenger demand, airlines also won’t be pressured to discount fares.
