The heat is on. Thursday night, the NBA will crown its champion, and once again, Boston and Los Angeles will face off for the title in a historic pattern of clinching games that have embedded the minds of sports fans since the 80’s.
In Los Angeles, A-list celebrities like Jack Nicholson snag courtside seats to cheer on the Lakers, who were defeated by the Celtics in the 2008 playoffs. All around Boston, fans donned in green T-shirts cheer the historic line “Beat L.A.” that first roared within the Boston Garden in 1982.
Our spin on the championship is a little different. We’re more concerned about which destination is the cooler hot spot.
Los Angeles has chic Rodeo Drive, trendy socialites and legendary clubs. The Hollywood Hills grace the glamorous cinema super land, and beaches stretch along the western length of its coast. The Pacific Ocean beckons surfers from around the globe to ride the waves and sunbathe in this hip SoCal paradise.
Boston is rife with American revolutionary history and saturated in historic sports culture. The quintessential New England locale gives way to Ivy League universities, European architecture, and a metropolitan walking mentality. Beantown has a small-town feel but packs a punch in art theater, dining.
One is wrapped historic pride and the other beams with modern edge. Which would you rather travel to?
